Catalogue

In our upcoming auction 'International Design' we offer, as usual, design objects from the last 100 years. Look forward to classics by Le Corbusier, Pierre Paulin, Hans J. Wegner, Alvar Aalto, Christian Liaigre and others. From simple Scandinavian wooden furniture to colorful models from the seventies and design classics from the eighties - everyone will find a suitable piece in our range of more than 250 lots.

Absolute eye-catchers are seating furniture by Shiro Kuramata, Stiletto and Frank O. Gehry, symbolic of the design of the eighties. French design is also abundantly represented this time: furniture by designers such as Jean Prouvé, Charlotte Perriand, Pierre Paulin, Le Corbusier and others are in the offering with estimates ranging from €100 to €7,000.

The 'Plastic Fantastic' chapter in our 'Italian Design' auction the previous day continues in this auction. Here you can find classics of plastic design such as the armchair ‚Ei des Columbus' by Peter Ghyczy (estimate 500-600€) and seating furniture by the German manufacturer Bär+Knell (estimates 350 - 1,200€) as well as very unusual pieces. One of them is the 'Rainbow Chair' by French designer Patrick Norguet. The piece of furniture, so simple in its form at first glance, is the result of an elaborate production process in which individual colored plastic strips are joined together using ultrasound and then mirrored by hand. Executed by the Italian furniture manufacturer Capellini, the chair is on offer with the estimated price of 6,000 - 7,000€.

In the field of lighting design, we are pleased to offer again a larger ceiling lamp from the series 'Uchiwa' by Munich-based designer Ingo Maurer. After two different lights of this series were knocked down in our auction 2022 for respectively 12.000€ and 35.000€, we are looking forward to exciting bidding battles. The light 'San-Ju', consisting of 30 fans, is offered for the estimated 15.000 - 18.000€.

All objects can be viewed during the preview from March 9 to 13 in our showroom.

In the auction 'International Design', French design was clearly leading!

The designs by the architect Christian Liaigre were met with particularly high interest. The hammer price for the ‚Umberto‘ coffee table quadrupled - the new happy owner from Paris got the table of cast bronze for 12,000€. The ‚Omega‘ table lights, made in the Parisian workshop of Eric Schmitt, were also sold in the auction for a price of 4,800€.

There was also plenty of bidding for German Design. The ceramic art of Beate Kuhn was well-deservedly appreciated by several bidders. Thus, the vase object, created around 1966, was purchased for 9,500€. An important object from the chapter German Design was clearly the 'San-Ju‘ ceiling light from the ‚Uchiwa‘ series, designed by Munich lighting designer Ingo Maurer. Consisting of 20 fans, the light was purchased for the estimated €12,000 by a German private collection.

The iconic seating furniture from Vitra's production continues to be popular. So it comes as no surprise that the seating object 'How High The Moon' by Shiro Kuramata, estimated at 5,000 - 6,000€, received a hammer price of 9,000€ and the two 'Beaver' armchairs by Frank O. Gehry were auctioned for 3,500€ each.

A pleasant surprise, on the other hand, was the particularly strong interest in the advertising box with furniture designs by Rei Kawakubo. The presentation box with furniture, difficult to find and estimated at 900 - 1,200€, was auctioned at 4,200€.

All unsold lots will be offered in the post-auction sale until April 14.
