Our first Modern Art auction of 2026 achieved highly gratifying results and marked a strong start to the new auction season!
The absolute highlight was the bronze sculpture 'Riding Amazon' by Franz von Stuck, which realized an impressive hammer price of EUR 44,000. This striking representation of the Amazon, an enduring symbol of strength and mythological heroism, demonstrates the artist’s distinctive synthesis of Art Nouveau.
Another exceptional result was achieved by the ceramic jug 'Femme du Barbu' by Picasso. After an intense and competitive bidding battle, the Madoura edition piece, dated 1953, was sold for EUR 36,000, doubling the lower estimate and underlining the continued demand for Picasso’s innovative ceramic works.
The Bulgarian painter Stoyan Tsanev once again confirmed his strong market presence. Two abstract compositions from 1998 attracted considerable interest and sparked a lively bidding contest, achieving EUR 10,000 and EUR 9,500 respectively, well above their estimates and in line with the remarkable result already seen in our Modern Art auction in October 2025.
The portfolio 'Modulation' by Rupprecht Geiger was similarly sought-after. The set of ten colour serigraphs was knocked down for EUR 9,000, doubling its lower estimate and reflecting the sustained appreciation for Geiger’s exploration of color and form.
Conrad Felixmüller’s self-portrait reached EUR 4,000, doubling the asking price. The delicate drypoint etching from 1915 impressed collectors with its expressive intensity and rarity.
The result for 'ZUR IV' by Eduardo Chillida was also surprisingly high. The bidding for the work concluded at EUR 1,400, almost five times the asking price.
We would like to thank all participants for their active engagement and the enthusiastic bidding throughout the auction.
The post-auction sale will continue until 24 April 2026, and we look forward to welcoming you again to the next Modern Art auction in October 2026, for which we are happy to accept consignments.
