Auction 179C

Modern Art

Our Modern Art auction in the second half of 2025 achieved particularly pleasing results!

The absolute highlight and record breaker was the integration of Adolf Luther's 'Sphärische Hohlspiegelwand' which was commissioned privately in the early 1970s. The work served as a room-dividing installation in a private apartment in Munich and was an integral part of the architecture – entirely in line with Luther's idea of merging art and space into a single entity. The artist's aim was to open up the viewer's perception and bring them into direct contact with the phenomena of light. The concave mirror wall was accompanied by a certificate from the Adolf Luther Foundation. The excellent condition of the piece also added to the appeal of this unique object. After a long and exciting bidding war, the mirror wall was sold for EUR 80,000, more than double the lower estimate.

The abstract composition by Bulgarian painter Stoyan Tsanev had already attracted considerable interest in the run-up to the auction. The large-format acrylic painting from a German private collection achieved a hammer price of EUR 10,000, five times the lower estimate, and caused excitement in the room.

Our auction house achieved another top result for the plot/machine drawing in ink by Stuttgart artist Frieder Nake. The work is a very early computer-generated graphic, which ultimately sold for EUR 6,500.

In the field of classical modernism, the sales of Pablo Picasso's 'Scène d’interieur' for EUR 6,000 and Man Ray's ink drawing of an abstract figure for EUR 5,500 are particularly noteworthy.

'Spirals and Forms' is the name of a color lithograph by Alexander Calder. The sheet we auctioned is an artist's proof, printed in addition to the regular edition of 125 copies. The sheet achieved EUR 4,800, more than double the lower estimate.

We would like to thank everyone for their active participation in the auction and look forward to the next event in March 2026, for which we are happy to accept consignments.
