Quittenbaum is pleased to present an attractive offer of international design in the upcoming auction on 20 February 2019. Leading the auction is the rare side table ‚Brussels 1958’ by the workshop Carl Auböck in Vienna. According to the consigner the table, designed in 1957, was shown at the world fair in 1958 in Brussels (estimate € 6.000-7.000). Further works by the Austrian designer in the sale are the table clock from 1962 with its extraordinary horsehair covered surface (estimate € 3.000-3.500) and the coat hanger made of beech wood with nickel-plated hooks from 1953 (estimated at € 1.200-1.500).

A favourite among design-lovers is the side table ‚Traccia’ by the Berlin-born designer Meret Oppenheim. ‚Traccia’, meaning trace in Italian, cheekily takes up the crow-shaped feet of the table and shows a slight track of crow feet across its gold-plated table top. (estimate € 2.000-3.000)

A rare piece by Anne Liberati & Yoris Heetman might excite fans of the 80s: the small cabinet ‚pin up’ was made as a limited edition fort he Gallery Néotù in Paris. The Gallery specialized in contemporary furniture by designers, artists and architects which became known as ‚art furniture‘ and was only produced in small series. With its leather covered legs and its ‚dress‘ made of small metal plates, it refers to the spirit of 80s fashion (estimate € 3.000-3.500).

The sale also includes a beautiful range of Scandinavian classics. This chapter is led by the ‘Egg chair 3316 with ottoman’ by Arne Jacobson, produced by Fritz Hansen with original covering by Hallingdal (estimate € 3.500-4.500). A beautiful teak sideboard ‚309’ by the Danish design-duo Peter Hvidt & Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen is estimated at € 2.500-3.500. The timeless elegant chair with stool ‚Ari‘ is also on offer. Designed in 1966 it still counts as one of the model pieces by Arne Norell (estimate € 1.500-2.500).

We are looking forward to welcoming you during our preview from 14 February until 18 February in our showroom located at Theresienstrasse 60, 80333 München.

143B - International Design

Bauhaus enjoys great popularity.

Bidders were also actively involved on the second day of the auction. Well-known classics, such as Arne Jacobsen's 'Egg chair' (hammer price: EUR 6,200) or Meret Oppenheim's side table 'Traccia' (hammer price: EUR 3,000)

were in great demand and quickly changed hands. The positive effects of this year's Bauhaus anniversary were clearly noticeable. The small selection of tubular steel furniture, which should give a foretaste of our upcoming auction '100 years Bauhaus' in June, was received with great enthusiasm. Particularly in demand were the colorfully arranged nesting tables by Marcel Breuer. One set could be sold for EUR 4,200, another for EUR 5,000.

Unsold objects will be available in our post auction sale until Friday, 22 March.
