'Rainbelle' pleated paper umbrella, 1948

L. 63 cm, D. 70 cm. Made by Folding Products Manufacture Corp., Long Island, New York, from 1951. Wood, painted black, paper with green vinyl coating, green plastic, sheet aluminium, painted green.

From the estate of F. Kramer. The umbrella was designed during Kramer's exile in the USA in 1948. It was issued in 1951. It took two years for Swedish engineers to develop a production machine. The umbrella is made of a long pleated sheet of paper coated with vinyl. Other exemplars can be viewed only in public collections. (Bauhaus-Archiv in Berlin and Museum für Gestaltung in Zürich). Ladies' size.
