In original boxes. From a limited edition of 75 pieces each in four different colours. The artist, who lives in New York, is particularly known for her self-portraits as historical (female) personalities who are always a piece of social criticism and who comment on the relationship between the sexes. Here she recreates Jeanne-Antoinette Poisson, better known as Madame de Pompadour. Louis XV's mistress was a great patroness. Among other things, she also ordered several porcelain services from the Manufacture Royale de Sèvres. The service presented here is based on one of her commissioned works. Cindy Sherman photographed herself here, with a portrait of François Boucher in the back of her mind, dressed in 18th century clothing, with a white wig, but with breast prostheses against curtains. The portrait was then transferred to the mirrors and cartridges of the porcelain parts in an elaborate screen printing process. Glaze and platinum decorations were applied by hand. https://collections.dma.org/artwork/5335315
