Frederik Kayser. 'Cross' chair, 1955. H. 79 x 60.5 x 73.5 cm. Made by Gustav Bahus Eft., Bergen, Norway. Teak, brown leather, cord, auburn fabric.

In contrast to the other Scandinavian countries, Denmark, Finland and Sweden, the young modern post war design in Norway was not that popular. Only a handful of young designers were able to reach the international format of their Scandinavian 'relatives'. Norwegian interiors tended to be more traditional and even the most important Norwegian designers of the post war epoch were almost forgotten by the end of the 20th century. It is only in the last couple of years that interest in that era of awakening intensified and thus, Frederik Kayser, one of the principal representatives of the Norwegian 'Modernism' got back into the centre of attention. The 'Cross chair' has only been produced shortly.
