To kick off our 2025 auction year, we have a wide range of Modern and Contemporary art on offer, featuring some of the biggest names in art history!

Pablo Picasso's lithograph 'Nu assis, de profil' on Arches-Velin (estimate EUR 9,000 - 12,000) was created in 1947 and impressively illustrates Picasso's ability to maintain a strong expressive power even with a reduced style. With just a few precise lines, he focuses on the essential form of the figure without, however, forgoing a strong presence and sensuality. Picasso was a master at breaking through the boundaries of form and perspective through his own interpretation - a characteristic that runs through his entire oeuvre right up to his later works. Despite the sketchy reduction of the motif, the dynamism and liveliness remain unbroken. Rather, he succeeds in creating a remarkable physicality through loose contours and the renunciation of shading. Marc Chagall's 'Le Verger - Sheet 37 from Daphnis et Chloé', 1961 - (estimate EUR 8,000 - 10,000) combines his characteristic intensity of color and poetic imagery. In this masterful lithograph, a dreamlike scene full of lightness and romance unfolds, impressively reflecting Chagall's unmistakable style. Joan Miró's 'Escalade vers la lune' from 1969 (estimate EUR 8,000 - 12,000) fascinates with its playful abstraction and dynamic formal language, which takes the viewer on a surreal journey into cosmic spheres.

The silver gelatin prints by Sally Mann stand out in particular from the more than 30 lots in the photography category. Sally Mann's black and white photographs from the early 1990s, particularly from the 'Immediate Family' series, capture intimate, poetic and often melancholic moments of her children in the natural surroundings of her garden. With a sensitive balance between staging and authenticity, she explores themes such as childhood, vulnerability and transience. In the upcoming auction, 'Vinland' (estimated price EUR 15,000 - 20,000), 'Punctus' (estimated price EUR 8,000 - 12,000) and 'Jessie at 11' (estimated price EUR 5,000 - 8,000) are three outstanding works that impressively illustrate Mann's unique visual language and her emotional depth.

You can also look forward to a selection of Pop Art works, including 8 lots by Andy Warhol, such as his color serigraph 'Jimmy Carter I' (estimate EUR 10,000 - 15,000), which was created in 1976 as an artist proof alongside an edition of 50 copies and is an impressive example of his iconic portrait art, in which he staged the then US presidential candidate with bright colors and graphic sharpness. Thierry Noir's 'Une superb journée' from 1993 is similarly colorful (estimate EUR 10,000 - 15,000). With its bright colors and striking, stylized figures, the painting reflects the playful energy and unmistakable street art style of the artist who shaped the Berlin Wall.

Top results in our Modern and Contemporary Art auction!

At the start of our auction series we were able to achieve top results, particularly in the field of photography. Sally Mann's black and white photographs from the series 'Immediate Family' capture intimate, poetic and often melancholic moments of her children in the natural surroundings of her garden. 'Vinland' achieved a hammer price of EUR 26,000, while 'Punctus' received EUR 16,000. Günter Blum's photographs were also highly sought-after and in some cases achieved more than four times the lower estimate, such as 'Kuss II' from 1994.

Numerous lots in the Classical Modernism category also changed hands for very pleasing hammer prices. Georges Braque's color lithograph with embossed print 'Le Canard' sold for EUR 8,000. Our catalog cover 'Jimmy Carter I' by Andy Warhol - an artist proof - was knocked down for EUR 16,000 and will go to another European country.

The result for James Howell's acrylic painting on canvas was also surprisingly high. The bidding battle for the work ended at fourteen times the asking price at EUR 14,000. Victor Vasarely's chess set was much sought-after; the board made of 26-colored serigraphs with its 32 pieces made of cast resin found a new home for EUR 4,200.

The post auction sale continues until April 25 2025.
