International Design – October 11, 2017

The range of designs that will be on on October 11 is, once again, enormous. An elegant wicker chair by Richard Riemerschmid (designed in 1906, €900-1,200) and the bright-red 'Echauffeuse' (1992) by Louis Durot in the shape of red puckered lips of polyurethane can be seen as antipodes of the offer. Among the strongest Scandinavian designs are Verner Panton's 'S' chair (1965, €2,200-2,500) and a pair of 'X' chairs by Danish designer duo Hvidt & Mølgaard Nielsen (1950-59, for Fritz Hansen, €2,400-3,000). They worked together from 1944 to 1975. Hans-Agne Jakobsson's manifold lighting designs with multi-colored glass lanterns are very popular at the moment. Nanna Ditzel, Alvar Aalto, Ilmari Tapiovaara and Arne Vodder complete the Scandinavian selection. A dining table with a plastic bird of patined cast bronze provides romantic elegance (1960/70s, €3,000-4,000). Egon Eiermann, Hans Luckhardt and Luigi Colani represent the German design, Colani standing for the easy living of the Seventies with his 'Pool' seating landscape for Rosenthal (1970/71, €5,000-7,000).
