Italian Design – October 10, 2017

On October 10, Italian design is in the center of attention. Exquisite lighting design was made for example by Gino Sarfatti, present with one of his rare five-ball hanging lights (€6,000-7,000) and Angelo Lelli's 'Occhio' floor light from the 1950s (€6,000-7,000). A dressing table (€15,000-20,000) and a dresser (€35,000-45,000) from the Parco dei Principi Hotel by Gio Ponti are among the most fetching of the 250 lots on offer. Ico Parisi, Claudio Salocchi, Vico Magistretti, Carlo de Carli and Joe Colombo are present most prominently with numerous pieces of furniture. A stunning pair of 'Elda' chairs by Colombo, who passed away way too early, with crème-white leather, is on offer for €7,000-9,000. A group of six 'Piccola tentazione' easy chairs by Mario Bellini, coated in black leather, literally lead into temptation. The success of furniture and accessories by Fornasetti led to numerous new interesting consignments.

Report on 134A 'Italian Design' – 10 October 2017

Many satisfactory prices were attained throughout, right from the start of the auction week in October.

Joe Colombo's pair of 'Elda' chairs, hugely advertised in the forefront, was the highlight of the auction, surpassing its estimate by far and receiving a hammer price of €11,000. Gio Ponti's turquoise green dresser attained an excellent result with €36,000 as well.

Fornasetti designs were – as always – in high demand, over 80% of the lots on offer were sold.

Purchase unsold lots in the post-auction sale until 3 November.
