Auction 157D

Studio Jewelry with selected works of the Hermann Jünger Collection

01. July 2021 at 6:00 PM CEST

The offer of the author's jewelry auction on July 1, 2021, contains objects with a very special provenance. We are pleased to offer 46 selected student and colleague works from the estate of Professor Hermann Jünger (1928-2005).

The goldsmith and silversmith Hermann Jünger left a lasting impression on generations with his jewelry work and his teachings at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. A great openness to his environment was always decisive for his work. This included not only the intensive dialogue with his goldsmithery class, which brought forth highly respected artists from all over the world, such as Otto Künzli, Alexandra Bahlmann and Daniel Kruger. It was above all his international artistic contacts as far away as Japan and New Zealand that repeatedly stimulated the discourse on modern jewelry design.

The collection includes selected works by Yasuki Hiramatsu, Hubertus von Skal, Friedrich Becker and many other author's jewelry artists from a period of almost 40 years. On a small scale it shows the wide horizon of a pioneer of modern jewelry design.

In the second part of the catalog, another 60 works from other provenances complete the offer. Here, too, important representatives of the author's jewelry scene can be found, such as Giampaolo Babetto, Erico Nagai and Hermann Jünger himself. There is also a strong focus on high-quality editions and unique pieces by renowned sculptors and architects. Pol Bury is represented here with three kinetic works, and an extraordinary one-of-a-kind pendant comes from Giò Pomodoro.

All works can be seen during the preview from June 24, 2021.

The two auctions 'Authors' Jewelry' and 'Jewelry and objects of vertu' on July 1 offered a nice selection for collectors and enthusiasts.

Graphic and kinetic works by Giampaolo Babetto and Pol Bury were particularly sought after. Babetto's high-contrast brooch in yellow gold with blue pigment almost doubled its starting price and was knocked down for EUR 6,000.

Among the highlights of the evening was the unique brooch/pendant by Gío Pomodoro, which was sold for EUR 15,000. Arman's jewelry pieces were also in high demand among bidders and were all sold. The highest hammer price was achieved by the abstract brooch 'Velo mauve' at 7.200 EUR.

Organic forms, such as the ginger objects by Sam tho Duong or the gentian flower by David Bielander also attracted bidders. The small caterpillar brooch by Vhernier, a very charming piece, changed hands for 5.000 EUR.

Unsold objects will be offered in the post auction sale until August 6.
