Biography

Jean Després (Souvigny 1889 - 1980 Avallon)

Jean Després was a trained goldsmith and silversmith. However, he was so impressed by the technology of his time, especially the transformations of the 1920s, that he turned very successfully to ornamental and everyday objects in addition to jewelry making.

As early as 1925, he participated in the Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriell in Paris with a toilet set. Other international exhibitions followed at home and abroad, including the Salon des Indépendants (1927-30), the 1937 World's Fair in Paris and the 1958 World's Fair in Brussels, where he was awarded a gold medal.
