Biography

Paolo Buffa was an Italian furniture designer whose main creative period was between the early 1930s and 1960s. He was born in Milan in 1903 and died there in 1970. After studying at the Polytechnic University in his hometown, he initially worked with the architect and designer Gio Ponti. From 1928, he shared a design office with his architect friend Antonio Cassi Ramelli. Six years later he opened his own independent studio and developed his own distinctive style that met with great success. After the Second World War, Buffa worked with various furniture manufacturers who mass-produced his designs. His furniture was presented at many exhibitions and thus achieved a high level of populartity, especially in Italy. He continued to produce designs until shortly before his death and is still one of the most well-known Italian furniture designers of his time.
