Biography

Mario Botta is a Swiss architect, professor and head of a university in his hometown of Mendrisio, Switzerland. He was born on April 1st, 1943 and still lives in Mendrisio. At the age of 18 he attended the art school Liceo Artistico in Milan. He then studied architecture at the IUAV in Venice from 1964 to 1969, where he obtained his diploma as a student of Carlo Scarpa. In the same year he founded his own architecture office in Lugano. He has held teaching positions at many architecture colleges and is one of the most important representatives of the Ticino school. He has also been designing furniture and lighting since the early 1980s. In addition to many projects in his own homeland, he is also active worldwide.
