Provenance: Lots 817, 818 and 819 both originate from a party cellar designed and furnished by Verner Panton for a private client in the early 1970s. The client was fascinated by the living environments Panton created for Visiona I and II and therefore explicitly chose these intensely colored, psychedelic, and fantastical interiors for his 400-square-meter party cellar in his home in a quiet Viennese residential district. The bar was dismantled after the owner's passing a few years ago; the remaining furniture and lighting fixtures went to his heirs. In 2019, Viennese photographer Stefan Oláh was able to photograph this little-known Gesamtkunstwerk (total work of art) for his fascinating and highly informative photo book on 1970s Austrian architecture (Bunt, Sozial, Brutal), thus preserving it, at least digitally, for posterity. Verner Panton's fabrics were used in this futuristic setting as wall coverings, tablecloths, and partitions. The 'Ring' lamps achieved cult status, partially due to their use in the legendary Spiegel publishing house canteen. The furniture pieces from the 'Wave' series were produced only in very small batches and are extremely rare on the secondary market.
