The 'Nature Self-Portrait' series, created in 1996, marks a turning point in Laura Aguilar’s work: for the first time, she shifted her nude self-portraits from indoor settings to the great outdoors. The photographs, taken during a period of depression while traveling through New Mexico, opened up a new artistic approach for her, and Aguilar found working in nature itself to be a healing experience.
