'Tournesol' carafe, 1898

H. 28.6 cm. Cased glass, colorless and dark amber. Decor etched in several steps, motif with a sun flower, a large flower backed with gold foil and decorated with a green cabochon. Bottom signed: Gallé déposé (needle etching in a stylized flower).

In 1898, patent protection was applied for in Nancy for the decor with attached cabochons and a rising sun. Reproduction of the drawing: Hilschenz-Mlynek/Ricke, Hentrich glass collection, Kunstmuseum Düsseldorf, Munich 1985, no. 238 (a version in the Bröhan Museum, Berlin, vol. II, 1, no. 18). The present carafe has the same signature as the Hentrich collection, no. 238.
