Biography
Nathalie Du Pasquier grew up in a family with strong connections to art history. Between 1975 and 1977, she traveled extensively to West Africa, an experience that profoundly influenced her visual sensibility. In 1979, she moved to Milan, where in 1981, at the invitation of Ettore Sottsass, she became a founding member of the Memphis group. A self-taught designer, she made a decisive contribution to the Memphis style, designing fabrics, plastic laminates, rugs, and furniture characterized by decorative surfaces and vibrant colors. After the group disbanded in 1987, she devoted herself primarily to painting, which she had begun in 1985, and developed an artistic research that also encompassed sculpture, drawing, models, ceramics and books, exploring the relationship between figuration and abstraction and between two- and three-dimensionality. Her works have been exhibited in numerous international galleries and institutions, including the Pace Gallery, the Camden Arts Centre in London, the Kunsthalle Wien and the Kunsthalle Lissabon. In 2022 the Museo d'Arte Contemporanea in Rome dedicated a solo exhibition to her, Campo di Marte.
