In the 1970s, Mario Ceroli, one of Italy's great contemporary sculptors, intensively explored the design of home furniture in his preferred material, wood. The head of the bed construction made of Russian pine is highly symbolic, interpreting, in a modern way, the 'Bocca della Verità', the mouth of truth. Ceroli references the large disk-shaped marble relief from Roman antiquity, which has been part of the Roman church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin since the 17th century. According to a medieval legend, anyone who puts their hand in the mouth of the bearded face and does not tell the truth will lose their hand.
