After the end of the First World War, several glass companies based in Nancy, including Daum Frères and Etablissements Gallé, merged to form the 'Cristalleries de Nancy' in an effort to revive the economy. The company worked closely with perfumers but also produced drinking glasses and vases using various techniques; for example, crystal glass was used in production for the first time in 1921. Exports were highly successful until "Black Friday" in 1929, after which the market collapsed abruptly, and the joint venture was wound down by 1935.
