The 105 original fashion drawings presented here offer a rare glimpse into Wolfgang Joop’s early creative years and document the development process of a fashion collection from 1978\/79. The designs were created as part of a collaboration between Joop and the family-run Dauster KG in Wiesbaden, a long-established company for fur and leather fashions with its own atelier, which existed from 1947 to 2004. Together with the then owner and managing director Volker Dauster, himself a trained tailor, Joop developed designs whose material selection and craftsmanship were closely coordinated. The resulting collections were subsequently presented at fashion shows. <\/p>\n\n

Unlike representative presentation sketches, these drawings are authentic studio designs that make the creative work process directly comprehensible. Numerous drawings bear handwritten notes on materials, workmanship, and execution; on some sheets, leather samples were also affixed to illustrate the planned implementation. These functional additions, in particular, lend the collection exceptional documentary value and highlight the close connection between design concept and craftsmanship. <\/p>\n\n

The drawings originate from a time when Wolfgang Joop was still at the beginning of his career and establishing himself as a young designer in the German fashion scene\u2014even before he achieved international renown in the following years. As a complete, preserved collection of studio drawings, they document a previously little-known chapter of his early work and, at the same time, a piece of German fashion history.<\/p>\n\n

67 sheets of felt-tip pen on paper (one with an applied leather sample), 38 sheets of colored felt-tip pen drawings on paper (some with applied leather samples). Each approx. 28 x 21 cm (sheet). Some drawings are labeled by Joop with information on material, design, or sewing instructions. Each loose in clear plastic sleeve.<\/p>\n\n
