H. 36.5 cm (incl. base). Cold-painted bronze, gilded, head, belly, arms and legs as well as the torches of carved ivory, part painted. Flames of synthetic amber resin. Flame base signed: Signet of Preiss & Kassler and base signed: F. Preiss (incised). Black marble base.

The figurine was exhibited at the Leipziger Messe in 1930. The 'Flame Leaper' and the 'Torch Dancer' (lot 11) are the epitome of the Art Deco sculpture. The elegance of the movement and the finesse of carving of both sculptures make them outright masterpieces of the epoch. The dancers' shoulder-lenght hair looks like licking flames itself.
