Success for weapons collection Dr. Konrad Ullmann

The ‚mbulu’ reliquary figurine of the Kota got the highest hammer price of the 274 lot auction ’Tribal Art’. The two very rare chieftain coffins of the Ngata/ Ntomba now enhance a German collection for their estimate of € 9.000,--. Some phone bidders were interested in cult items of the Ivory Coast. A ‚kpélie’ face mask of the Senufo went from € 1,200,-- to € 3,500,--. Two male figures of the Baule were as coveted as an abstract ‚kple-kple’ mask that got knocked down for € 3,000,--.

Most attractive was the weapons collection of Dr. Konrad Ullmann that held almost 60 lots. 60% of the ritual weapons, that had been formerly owned by Carl-Otto Czeschka/ Konietzko, Hamburg, changed hands, among them some sickle-knives of the Mangbetu from the Democratic Republic of Congo, a short sword of the Suku (lot 223) went for € 500,-- to Italy, and all shields of the Zande from Congo could be sold. Lot no. 236 was even hammered down at four-times its estimate at € 850,--.
