Post auction report

Quittenbaum Art Auctions is delighted to have obtained very good results for its Murano Glass and Design divisions. In total, more than half a million Euro have been grossed on the day the auctions took place.

In the Design sector, almost everything by American furniture makers Herman Miller and Knoll International could be sold. Designs by George Nelson, Charles and Ray Eames, Isamu Noguchi, Eero Saarinen, Florence Knoll and Ettore Sottsass were being sold at their estimates most of the time. Thus, Noguchi’s ‚IN-50’ sofa table was hammered down at € 2,400 and four ‚72PLB’ chairs with red backs by Eero Saarinen changed hands for € 2,000.

Finn Juhl and Arne Jacobsen knew the liveliest interest among the prominently featured Scandinavian designers. Juhl’s ‚FJ 45’ two-seater sofa attained € 6,000 and his matching armchair € 2,500. One client offered a generous € 2,500 for six ‚3107’ stacking chairs by Arne Jacobsen with brown cowhide cover. Exceptional chair designs by Hans Luckhardt and Angelo Mangiarotti were as coveted as peculiar lights by Angelo Brotto or Joe Colombo. A floor light by Stilnovo, circa 1955 with marble base got € 3,000 while Ingo Maurer’s ‚Light structure’ attained € 3,600. Gino Sarfatti’s ‚No. 606’ table light was being fiercely fought over and changed hands at last for € 4,200.
